Mondays Suck | 9.30.13: An Apology To Cam Cameron

harbscameron

Dear Cam,

For years, I looked at you as the biggest (if not sole) reason for the offensive woes of the Baltimore Ravens over the years, particularly when our All-Pro running back would get single-digit carries in a game. The calls for your head on social media would be loud and numerous… even when we won. They were even worse when we lost.

“Why won’t we run the ball?”
“Has anyone seen Ray Rice today? Because I haven’t.”
“#FireCamCameron”
“#CamMustGo”

Fans even signed petitions asking for your removal. Seriously, they did.

When you were fired after the loss to the Redskins last year, we rejoiced upon high. While the rest of the nation referred to it as a “panic move,” Raven Nation exhaled between Hallelujahs. And when we won Super Bowl XLVII with Jim Caldwell calling the plays many of us truly believed that, after years of knocking on the championship door, it was your removal that was literally the obstacle to glory.

That is, until yesterday, when I watched a game where the Ravens ran the ball all of once in the second half against the 27th ranked run defense in the NFL.

Once.

Last season, I would say to myself, “You know, maybe it’s not Cam’s fault that they abandon the run… maybe it’s the head… nah, it’s Cameron.”

Well, you’re not here anymore, so who do we blame now?

John Harbaugh is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. If John Harbaugh wants to run the ball, the Baltimore Ravens will run the ball. If John Harbaugh does not want to run the ball, the Baltimore Ravens will not run the ball, period.

So when I see us abandon the run under ANOTHER offensive coordinator, I have to look at the constant, and the constant sure isn’t you.

So, on behalf of many Ravens fans across the nation, I’d like to say, I’m sorry. Sorry for all the badmouthing we did about you over the years. It was unwarranted and undeserved.

Best of luck,
William

PS: Nice job putting up 41 points on Georgia on Saturday.

In other tidbits to give you something else to do on your Monday…

The Cleveland Browns may have been onto something after all.
When the Browns made the Trade of the Century two weeks ago, sending Trent Richardson to the Colts for a first-round pick, just about everyone accused the Browns of waving the white flag – and killed them for it. It was definitely a head-scratcher for me, because Richardson was their best player. But Richardson isn’t a quarterback, and you need one to compete in the NFL. I’m not going to say that Brian Hoyer is the answer at QB, but with two first-round picks in next year’s draft, they’ll at least have the ammo to try and get one.

The Vikings have one win… which is more than the Giants and the Steelers have COMBINED.
The Steelers have had a patchwork offensive line for years. After years of Ben Roethlisberger making it work with his ability to extend pays, it’s finally caught up to them. Combined with the old defense and the utter dislike Ben has for offensive coordinator Todd Haley, and the Steelers are in serious trouble. However, the Giants may be in worse shape. As Giants fan McFly said to me after their loss to the Chiefs (more on them later), “Bad teams find new ways to lose games every week, and now it looks like that’s what we’re doing.” Yes, the offensive line played terribly against Carolina, but that wasn’t the entire problem on Sunday. To use an oft-overused cliche, they’re just not firing on all cylinders. Although the team they lost to wasn’t exactly a pushover.

The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0.
I said before the season started that they would win the AFC West. Now they’ve doubled their win total from last year and #ARROWHEAD, starved for winning football, is rocking again. For shits and giggles, here’s the rest of their schedule:

@ Tennessee
Oakland
Houston
Cleveland
@ Buffalo
@ Denver
San Diego
Denver
@ Washington
@ Oakland
Indianapolis
@ San Diego

They will be the favorite in at least nine of their final 12 games. Not saying they’ll win them all, but they can definitely get to 11 wins, and if they can get a split with Denver… well, don’t say I didn’t warn you earlier.

This Is It | 9.25.13: The Steelers Stink (and The Rest of NFL Week 3)
